'| No Outdoor Xmas Decorations This Year Newcomers | to Oakville must wait until next Jear to find out what the lack of electrical power means to this district at this time of the year. Were there ample power, they would realize that residents and merchants of this district do not allow the Christ- mas season to pass without suit- able recognition. Down the highway is darkness --where in former years tall pine trees festooned' with lights and Santa Claus and his reindeer rid- ing a housetop were a joy to all who passed. Our stores are dark and dull, not the usual brightly lighted displays, to hold the pass- erby in happy spell. It is a cheer- less Christmas outdoors, although the usual festive lights can deck individual trees that Santa Claus will visit on Wednesday night when all are asleep. The residents who took pride in their displays and spent con- siderable thought to make them so attractive, this year have to fold their lights away. Jack Osborne took posses- sion of the "mike" to introduce the Club's highlights. T might add 7 here, that Jack had made special notes for the occasion, but upon taking his stand couldn't face them when he had a much more interesting audience before him, and so just let his impromptu thoughts speak for him. I believe his actions prove that planned prattle can easily be outdone by spontaneous speech, As Jack sta- ted, "We owe much to Rotary whose co-operation enabled the Club to get its fine start in life. It was very gratifying and en- couraging' to see so many of that Club's members in attendance. We certainly appreciate their pres- ence.' Both Carol and Emerson Fraser, the vocally versatile twosome fea- tured weekly at the club were their usual better-than-best selves. A special treat was provided when they joined forces on "Winter Wonderland." Joyce Bell, "of Toronto, thrilled the crowd with her semi-ballet to Lover's Waltz, in a gorgeous cre- ation of black lace. Her second performance, a soft shoe- number to a medley of Cole Porter favor- ites, brought every form of ap- proval from an appreciative aud- ience. Joyce's grace and flowing movenient, as she swayed, pier- retted and glided was the work of a true artiste.
