Employed by Hillmer's Fuel and Ice Co, which. in summer specializes in the latter com- modity, Mr. Snowball has always had a week's holiday just before the hot season sets in, and an- other week when the weather cooled off. This year, with a. two- week jaunt in prospect, he bor- rowed Mrs. Arthur Hillmer's car for the trip. The Hillmer vehicle was all packed with holiday. gear and ready for the road when Lions Arch Grant and Vince Barrey arrived to deliver the new car. "This spluttered covered is really something!" Charlie, once he re- himself. "It was very Hillmer to let me haye her car, but I won't be long in switching all our stuff over into our own." And he and son Edwin were mighty prompt in putting his words into action. Other winners included Leroy Morden, Reynolds St, who won the $100 doll; Mrs. E. Knap, Toronto, organizer of the direct blood transfusion service, Canadian Red Cross Society. "We wish to thank all the cit- izens who have contributed to this clinic," said Mrs. W. H. Ford, chairman of the Red Cross blood donor committee, who expressed herself as very gratified with the response to the Red Cross appeal. Altogether 335 had volun- teered to give transfusions, but a number came late. Mrs. Ford and members of her committee 'were busy morning, afternoon and evening attending to the re- ception of blood donors and pro- viding them with necessary nourishment. Thanks to the willingness of the volunteer donors, the hospit- al now has a blood transfusion service which will be free to all requiring it. The blood bank will need to be replenished now and then, and with this end in view donor clinics will be held three times a year. The next one will be in November. A total of seven hundred donors is required, Mrs. Ford told the Journal, and each of these is asked to give two donations a year. It is hoped to establish a permanent registra- tion centre for blood donors in Oakville, Mrs. Ford stated. J.
