He was willing to provide siphons for the thirty houses now under construction, he said "We have a sanitary by-law," said Councillor Cumberland, "and septic tanks have been put in contrary to that bylaw. Sewage is going Into the storm sewer and not through the septic tanks." "The M.O.H. is doing the same thing at his property," said Dr. Cleaver. "I resent that," declared Dr. Mather. The sanitary by-law, he thought, could be made retroac- tive to apply to the first fifty houses in the Kent Gardens sur- vey, which have all been sold. Councillor Cumberland thought this was unfair, and that some other solution should be found. Dr. Mather pointed out that it would be a year before any new sewer connection could be made, and that in the meantime the by- law should be enforced. "Apparently = we haye to ad- journ to Dr. Berry," said Mr. Cleaver, "and we'll certainly do that. I'm not going to be pushed around by the little bureaucrats ment of Health. "As a member of this council I resent that statement very much, especially from such a man as Mr. Cleaver," replied Council lor Cumberland. "I think it's disgraceful that a man in his position would put us down as low as that" comment ed Deputy-Reeve Wickson. "I'm talking about the council," explained Mr. Cleaver. "I'm talking about the inspect- ors." "The people of Oakville object to sewage being dumped in the Sixteen Mile Creek," put in Reeve Biggar. "Before this sur- vey was started Mr. Cleaver was warned what might happen, and now it's happening."
