There by His love, o'er shaded Sweetly his soul shall rest. --Bver remembered by his wife and family. Friday, MORE ABOUT (Continuing from Page 1) instrumental, this one was largely vocal. And rarely has such sing- ing been heard in Oakville. Eldon Brethour, conductor of the Men Teachers' Choir, did a superb job of directing sixty or so voices, evoking great waves of harmony that filled the - vast auditorium and roused the audience to rapt- urous applause. In power, tonal qualities, and control the choir left little to be desired. Such a performance as it gave is possible only to singers of solid talent, trained with professional skill. The powers of the choir were evident in the opening number, the Hallelujeh Chorus from the "Mount of Olives" by Beethoven, which was rendered with all the joyous fervor that such a compos- ition demands. Of an entirely dif- ferent quality was the very brief "Adoramus" by Palestrina, in which the choir displayed admir- able control. In the Welsh air "Marching On," identically the same as the old favorite "Men of Harlech," they infused with a ringing, lilting enthusiasm that caught the very spirit of march- ing soldiers and brought down thunderous applause. The "Bor- der Ballad" was a song in much the same spirit. "Juanita" old favorite, was rendered with the right degree of sentimental ap- peal, and was followed by the Negro spiritual, "Roll, Chariot, Roll," and "Russian Picnic," that CHOIR SHARES SPOTLIGHT F. vibrated with the cheerful gayety of merry-making peasants. Miss Ireland's performance was marked with an advanced tech- nique and and a pleasing graceful ness. Her opening number, Bra- hm"s Intermezzo in A major, call- ed for considerable skill. It was followed by Intermezzo in A min- or, by the same composer, a more impassioned piece, to which the brilliant young pianist did full justice. Chopin's. well-know Etude in E Major was rendered in a maner that brought out its tones of tender, haunting beauty to the utmost, and his Etude in C Min- or, whose tempo is considerably faster, provided ample scope for Miss | Ireland's keyboard genius. Her rendition of Liszt's Liebes- traum proved highly satisfying. Two compositions by Villa-Lobos, "Minstrel Impressions" and "Jun- gle Festival," provided a touch of variety. Miss Ireland was given a splendid ovation by the audience. As a final encore she played a popular Chopin composition. Mr. Brethour contributed much to the sucess of the program by his humorous comments on var- ious numbers rendered by his choir. RADIOS, REFRIGER: WHO CAN ARGUE? is merely a commodity that blended when preparation meets opportunity in life's mixing' bowl.
