SEA RANGER NEWS Oakville Sea Rangers switched their muster to the garden of their 2nd Mate's house last week, so that they could continue the work begun the previous Satur- day on their rowing boat. TO'9 P.M. boating can Saturday afternoon last was set aside for swimming at the Y.W. C.A. pool in Hamilton, for test- ing the Rangers' 50 yards swim and five minutes floating, fully dressed, which they have to com- plete before they are allowed out in a boat. As some Rangers were unable to attend it is hoped to re- serve the pool for another Sat- urday soon, so the rest of the testing can ibe completed. The three month waiting period before a girl can make her Rang- er promise and wear on her cap the distinctive "Sea Ranger" tal- ly band seems to be so long, but the time actually goes by very quickly. It is even difficult some- times to manage to complete the rest of the pre-enrolment test in that three months. We have mow three recruits who are mear to completing this test, and it hoped to hold an enrolment ceremony for these three at the same time' as our Crew is officially launched, which we hope will be some time in June. We were pleased to welcome another recruit to our muster last week--June Burrell, a 1st. Class Guide from 1st 'Oakville Guide Company. We are always pleased to welcome any girl who has been a Guide into our Crew, especially if they have their First Class Badge, as this is such a help with so many of the Ranger tests. Quite a few questions have been asked about the tests a girl must pass before she can take part im boating, and before she can be enrolled as a Sea Ranger, and these will be the subject of an article in the very near future. NOT GUILTY By Jim H STAR DORIS DAY RE-ENACTS grey as his Saturday bath day REAL LIFE SCENE Recently while visiting the set of Warner Bros." Technicolor mu- sical, "On Moonlight Bay," Mrs. Alma Day looked on proudly as fer daughter, Doris, with one leg in a cast did a scene with her screen mother, Rosemary De Camp. Miss De Camp was min- istering to Doris! needs and giv- ing her words of encouragement. Mrs. Day recalled how a few years ago she was enacting the same scene with Dorls in real life. Doris, then a teen-ager struggling to make good as a dan- cer, broke her leg and =the injury threatened to leave her with a permanent limp. In much the same manner as in the film se- quence, Mrs. Day cheered Doris up and assured her that some day she would reach the top in the entertainment field. Mrs. Day could not help but beam with motherly pride as she watched Doris and realized how right her optimistic prediction turned out. LOST: ONE PAIR OF UNMENTIONABLES! If any prospector in the Mojave Désert finds a pair of ladies' un- mentionables, they belong to Vir- ginia Mayo. When a sandstorm hit the "Along The Great Divide" company while the Warner Bros. troupe was on desert location, it upset Virginia's portable dressing room and flung the star's ward- robe to the winds. All of it was recovered, except for the 'When last All this' to-do about discrimi tion on the part of a Hamilton barber serves to point up the fact that there IS one discrimination 'barbers never. practice. The star relies on her white peodle Cliquot, who arrison approached. However, while working on the set of Warner Bros. "Goodbye, My Fancy," Miss Crawford was crossed up by her pet pooch. He had found a pile of dirt in the corner and came back looking like it. "Good heavens," said Joan. "You look like Friday, Cliquot! And it's only Tuesday!" | Guest of the Week If L. H. Heyding, Gloucester St. will present himself at the box office of ithe Century Theatre any night next week, he and another guest will be admitted FREE as guests of the Trafalgar-Journal.
