The whistle blew, the boats jockeyed for position at the start- ing point--only slightly marred by a wee bit of barging on the part of unnamed but not unknown boats--and the race was on. The Snipes started down the course to the eastern buoy and the wilful breeze began to die down slowly but, oh, so surely, And there we drifted for an hour or more. It was fun and restful and peaceful. Finally one kindly soul timidly (knowing how sailors feel about motorized boats) offered a boat a tow Into the harbour. With no shame but only relief the skipper and crew gratefully accepted. Sails were lowered, centre board hauled up, and the Snipe sailors prepared for a speedy tow to port. When the othey sti--pardon speedboats saw that their fellow speeder did not have his head bitten off for his offer, théy hur- riedly went up to the nearest Snipe to tow it home and inevit- ably the nearest Snipe already had its sails down, etc. hoping to get home the quick way. And that is why the Oakville Yacht Squadron is a little red- faced this past week and not only from the sun. But seriously, the Squadron is grateful to those un- known motor-boat drivers who took pify on our plight. Saturday the sailing was wot much better, Twelve of the squadron's 15 Snipes were out to race. That included the four new ones out to race with the squad- ron for the first time this sea- son. The long triangle course was chosen for first race in order to see how the new boats would stack up with the older ones for sneed. They certainly showed their heels to us all.
