JE ST Sie Lo BE gous | If Milton Co-Ops and Oakville Oaks didn't set a new single game record for playoff errors--even in Halton County Loop play--dur- ing last Thursday night's dia- mond fiasco at Wallace park, it may be safely said that they soared right up among the all time leaders in the bobble dept, It was a sad night for last year's 0.B.A. finalist Oaks, who Kicked in ten of those miscues to make it a sadder night for the local mound staff and a positively tra- gic evening for home fans. Jack Wilson, the Rochester tosser who hasn't shown much reason why import tax should have been paid on him, just didn't have it to begin with, and his mates fer- vent efforts to rescue him in the pinches resulted in a series of fielding misdemeanours that made the most ardent club supporter shudder. Mark Pollock sharpen- ed things up a bit when he took over in the fourth, but further juggling didn't help his efforts much as the game rapidly became a route. Ken Pollock's five sing- les in five trips atoned for his fielding lapses. In fact, Oaks got enough hits, 13, to win two ordin- ary ball games. But this wasn't an ordinary ball game, Allah be pralsed; Let's just say it was a good game to have over. Actual- ly, the Milton series isn't import- ant in the O.B,A. playdown scheme of things, Co-Ops being a B club. What is important is that the Oaks will have to tighten up a-plenty if they are to emulate their last season's showing, Main weakness right now seem to be in the catching dept, where young Don Rutledge is playing heads-up, aggressive ball but Is, after all, a coveted junior infield- er; inconsistent fielding; failure of a couple of regulars who can do better to collect safeties; and lack of a clouting outfielder to replace injured Ben Languay. Plus a tendency to let the twir- ler on the mound linger there too long - after the i begins Partial Conversion with the rest of south-western Ontario, the Canadian National Exhibition is changing from 25 to 60 cycle.
