HERVE Ho! thing that the senior members of the Squadron had a quiet week as far as sail- ing went, becaus the junior members were very active The junior regatta was post- poned from Saturday until Mon- day due to the mountainous wav- es. Monday morning the lake was almost a dead calm with not much a good but lots of sunshine. In the noon a good breeze came up making the water slightly chop- py which gave the juniors a ance to sail under quite dif- ferent conditions Over forty youngsters took part. There were five Snipe' rac- es, five Pram races and two row- ing races. Ssme juniors had nev- er handled a Snipe but having learned at least the rudiments of iling had a chance to show what they could do in these bigger boats. And they did amazingly well. In each Snipe, a senior was along to coach and at the end of the pier Doug Armour with a megaphone called instructions. Sea Scoiits took part in the races using their own special il boats as well as Snipes and Prams. In all there were ten Snipes, five Prams, one Dinghy and two Scout boats used to race. These are the results of the Snipe rices First Race: 1st, Julie Weather- stone, crew: Peter Burkard, Jackie Hills; 2nd, John East wood, crew: Lance Appleford, sailing the dinghy. Second Race: 1st, Doug Rich- ards (crew: Jamie Armour, Judy Low); 2nd, Kay Honeywell (crew Don Blphick, Barb Munroe). Fifth Race: 1st, Ted Chisholm (crew: Jackie Hills, Dick Pear- son); 2nd/ Howie Martin (crew: Stewart Macrae, Cynthia East- wood). The winners in the five Pram races were Marg Munro who won the first three races and also the fifth race; and Bob Mordaunt who won the fourt race. aces there were four to a boat and the winners were Ted Chisholm, (Bob Busk, Dick Pearson, Bill MacFarlane) and Heather Low (Jim Robinson, Rupert Bucanan, Peter Loveda Prizes were given to the win- ners and a small prize to each child who took part. = Luncheon was served on the beach. Too much credit cannot be given to Don and Bev Bath and Lar Cond, who have given up so much of their time this summer to coach the kids in sailing and who organized the regatta. Ted Chis- holm won a very special prize from Larry Cond as being the Junior, who had made the most progress this year. This will be an annual prize. As for the senior week, the less said the better. On events of the about them, Wednesday eve- ning the fleet had to be towed home 'again when the wind died after the start of the race. Many of you saw those gigantic way on the: lake last Saturday and maybe wondered how any boat could go out in it. Well, some of the old diehards took out their Snipes in them for FUN. As one member told me, when the Snipe was on top ofa wave you felt as If you were on top of the world; but when you were in the trough of a wave and could see the next sheet of water towering over bout twenty feet, you won- dered what would happen when it broke. Vext Saturday the Oakville Yacht Squadron is taking part in | Snipe races at the C.N.E. Here is hoping: that we will bring ( some glory to Oakville. FILL YOUR COAL BIN NOW!
