The Canadian Young Leaders Coalition (CYLC) is hosting its first gala fundraising dinner on June 16 to support the rebuilding of schools in Ukraine. "I believe Canadians of all ages are looking for ways to help support Ukraine. As a teenager and student, I can't stop thinking about all the students whose schools have been destroyed. Af- ter more than 80 days of war, these young people need our help," said Oak- ville's 19-year-old Elijah Nikiforuk, a student of Ukrainian heritage and CYLC's founder and na- tional president. Keynote speaker is re- tired General Rick Hilli- er, former chief of de- fence staff. Attendees will also meet and hear from the Consul General of Ukraine. The event will be held at St. Joseph's Banquet and Conference Centre, 300 River Oaks Blvd. E., between 6 and 9:30 p.m. "For my entire life I have been proud of my Canadian-Ukrainian roots. Growing up, I was told of the challenges my great-grandparents faced when coming to Canada to build a better life where they could live in peace and their children could be educated. Their journey was a difficult one. "Now, three genera- tions later, the Ukrainian people are once again fac- ing immense challenges. They need our help."
