Attorney General MACDONALD stated i, that the lists were substantially the same as last year, and moved that the report be adopted. Carried. . ONTARIO AND HAMILTON SHIP CANAL. . On the motion of the petitions presented on Thursday, and the question of their re. ception being put, _ Attorney-General MACDONALD said that the practice of the House was that no petitions asking for aid from the Govern- ment could be received. He would suggest t that the Speaker should look over the . petitions, and call the attention of the V C . House to any that were of that character, 1 as it was impossible for the members of the ' . Government to keep a watch over all the I petitions that were presented. One of these l petitions had reference to the Huron and _ f Ontario Canal, and ought to stand. Perhaps l i his hon. friend who had presented it (Mr. . ' Graham) might think it necessary to renew a ' the discussion of last Session, and see if the House desired to depart from the position it i . then took up Meanwhile, the, question of I . receiving the Petition might stand. ' Mr. BOYD said he presumed the ruling of last Fear must be held as good until it should , . be altered. Another of these petitions, he ' understood, asked aid fora railroad, and, _ without expressing any opinion of his own ' as to the ruling in question, he would call f , . the attention of the Attorney-General to the _ fact. " " Attorney-General MACDONALD said the ' _ petition from the railroad did not ask Aid . from the Government, and did not fall with. in the rule. . r The question as to receiving the Petition of '. the Ontario and Huron Ship Canal Company f . . , was allowed to stand.
