WOOD'S RESIGNATION. Hon. Mr. CAMERON said he had had occasion several times to refer to the cir- cumstances under which the hon. member for Brant had resigned his position in the late Government, and to state that his thought it had been occasioned Ay some in- ducement being held out to him to take that step. The first intimation that any member of the late Government had of any intention of the late Treasurer to re- sign was 13' a letter sent by him to the late Attorney- eneral some few hours before he made it public in the House. Up to the time that he sent in his resignation, he gave no intimation to his colleagues of his in- tention. The ground that he took in ex- plantation to them was that he was unable, to bring any Reform support to the Administration, but he (Mr. Cameron) be- lieved that Mr. Wood had never been blamed at all for that by any of his cpl. leagues. He had resigned in a very criti- cal moment for the late Government; just whenavote of non-eoniidence was pend- ing. He thought he was prepared to show that communication passed between Mr. Wood and the Hon. President of the Qouneil_previous to his resignation; that D. :onversations together as to the time that he (Mr. W [t5pl5e',fSl'5ii5li and that arrangements had been made as to when he should speak on the subjects i),", under discussion. Communication had passed between Mr. Wood and the Presi- dent of the Council just at the moment when he was speaking to the late Attor-g ney-Genenl in regard to the affairs of the Government, and he also believed commu~ 5 nication had passed, between the two gen- I tlemen across the floor of the House atter- wards. He also believed that he was clos- eted with members of the late Opposition about the time of his resignation. After the present Speaker of the House had spoken on the norrcontidence vote, the late Treasurer had asked whether ther would not accept the votes that had been taken and resign. When the Premier had declined to make a resignation othe Hon. Mr. Wood had spoken to the Hon. Mr. Blake in order to get him 1 to endeavour to induce the. Government to resign. He then moved that a Selecr Committee be appointed to enquire whether any and what corrupt inducement or oiter was made to the Hon. E. B. Wood, a member of this House, to induce him to resign his position as Treasurer of the Province of Ontario, by the Hon. ll Blake, or any other member ot the present Administration, while members of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, such Committee to have power to send far peryons yyl were" , , "£1th Mr. BLAKE asked whethcr any wk . other member of the Administration was 1 : 1'" ;, chlrged y? thg yyyJ,efyy,t or not?
