PETITIONS. f The following petitionéwas presented :---- Mr. Masters--Petition of the Village Councils of Preston, New Hamburg, and Hespeler, praying that a change be made in the municipal law respecting bridges in in-- corporated villages. INTRODUCTION OF BILLS. Mr. DAWSON introduced a Bill to amend the law respecting the election of members to the Legislative Assembly. Mr. SCOTT introduced a Bill to amend chapter 211 of the Revised Statutes, respect-- ing the income and property of the Uni. versity of Toronto, University College, and Upper Canada College, He said that a large cash fund, which had now accumulated in respect of the endowment fund of these institutions, was open to the Administration of the day to be appropriated towards per-- manent improvements on the various build-- ings connected with the Colleges. The object of the present Bill was to provide that all expenditures made from the capital | of this fund should be subject to the ratifica-- tion of the Legislature, the same as in the case of the expent® °~s of money in aid of railways. o am~"* PRIVATE BILLS. The following Bills were read the third time and passed :-- Respecting the Galt and Guclph Railway Company--Mr. Massie. Respecting certain dams on Black Creek «----Mr. Appleby . The following Bills were passed through Committee :-- To incorporate Ontario Ladies' College-- Mr. Brown,. Respecting the Erie and Huron Railway Company--Mr. McCraney. sSALE OF LIQUOR BY DRUGGISTS. Mr. CREIGITTON asked whether the Governwment intend during this session to so amend the Liquor License Law as to prevent, as far as possible, the abuse of the priviiege accorded to druggists of selling liquor in packages ot not more than twelve ounces. Mr. HARDY said the mceasure intended to be introduced this session was not a gen-- | eral measure, and might not, therefore, touch the question the hon. gentleman re-- ferved to. TIMBER LICENSE CLAIM. Mr. SCOTT moved for an order of the House for a return of all communications with the Government and the Crown Lands Department in relation to the claim of George Hilliard to compensation in respect of the revocation of Timber License No. 143, township of Cavendish, _ He entered into a lengthy explanation in support of Mr. Hilliard's claim. I Mr. PARDEE said there was no objection to the return being brought down, but the Government had never recognized the as-- signment on which the claim was based. The motion was carried. TRENT RIVER WORKS. Mr. FERRIS moved for an order of the House for a return of all correspondence with the Dominion Government relating to the transfer of the Trent River Works to the Government of this Province, with copies of any Order in Council or other memoranda from the Dominion Government that relate to the transfer of the rights of the Domin-- ion Government to the Government of this Province over the said river and the works thereon. -- He said he had obtained a return on the same subject last session, and it showed that there was a desire on the part of the Dominion Government to trans-- fer these works to the Ontario Government.
