Mr. WATERS' Bill to amend the Act re-- :g:cting ditching and watercourses was read first time. * Mr. HARDY--Bill relating to interpleader. LICENSE COMMIS§IONERS. Mr. GRAHAM asked whether it was the in-- tention of the Government to continue the ser-- vices of the License Commissioner and In-- spector for the current year in the County of Lambton, owing to the Scott Act taking effect in that county on the first day of May next, beapd if(;o, from what source will their expenses ' id * .\7:. HARDY said that the Government had | the matter under consideration, and would pro-- | bubl{ introduce certain legislation respecting | it. Until they did so they could not announce | their policy on the subject. f LAND IMPROVEMENT FUXNXD. Mr, HAY moved an address to the Lieuten-- ant--Governor, prfiying that he will cause to be laid before this House a return of any corres-- pondence or papers which may have passed be-- tween the Goyernment of Ontario and the Government of the Dominion in respect to the Land Imxovement Fund. He explained the origin of the fund, saying that it arose from thesaleofcertain School Lands and Crow n Lands, the Proceeds to be ap})lied to the promotion of . localimprovements in the municipalities in which the ln.mn':vere located. The Treasurer had been applied to by. members representing the local«» ities where these lands were situated. The eople were anxions to know why they did not mjt at onee, and were blaming the Govern, ment for the delay. They had censured the CGovernment for not taking energetic steps in the matter. He presumed there was corres-- pondence on the subject, and that it would show the House just where the responsibility lay, He hoped a speedy settlement would be arrived at, 4 ; Mr, CREIGHTON said he believed the facts were very strong in favour of the municipali-- | ties. The Dominion had recognized its lia-- bility to pay interest on the amount coming to the municipalities, and it had paid interest to
