To Protect Ginsong. Dr. Caldwell's bill to provide fer the rre- vention of the extermination of the plant known as ginseng is an interesting one. Ginseng is a plant that grows somewhat ex-- tonsive?y in g'luurn Ontario, and whose root is used for med:cinal purposes, being shipped to New York, from which place it is sent to China. Last year between $20,-- 000 and $30,000 worth was sent from the country north of Kil'llg:ton. It is worth from 30 to $1 a pound as it is pulled, and from $4 to $6 a pound dry. It 16 'the root that is valuable, and if the plant is pulled before the seeds on it ripen and fall to the ground, the Bh\nt. is to that extent exter-- minated. nder the present reckless methoas of the growers there is ~danger of the extermination of the plant, which may be effected in a few years unless somcthing is done to stop it. Br. Caldwell's bill is to revent the pulling of the filmt. until after geptomber 1 each year ; the seeds will at that date have fallen to the ground. Notes.
