Boara or Trade Supports It. . % A deputation from the Toronto Board of Trade will wait upon the Govern-- ment on Friday at 2.30 and support the application for a subsidy to the Ontario, Hudson Bay & Western Railway Com-- pany. : ; A Bridge QOver the Ottawa. Messrs. J. W. Curry, 'Savage and Barry, representing the Great North-- ern Railway Company, waited upon the Government this afternoon and asked for a grant in aid of the construction of a bridge over the Ottawa River between Hawkesbury and Grenville. The bridge . is intended to form part of a short rail-- way route from Parry Sound to Que-- bee, which, it is claimed, will greatly | reduce the jJourney from Duluth to Liv= ' erpool. The deputation, who were ac-- | companied by Speaker Evanturel and, other eastern members, were subjected to questions which seemed to suggest a dcoubt as to the advisability of subsidis-- ing an undertaking that would <carry trade past Ontario. ' . Railway Subsidies Asked For. | The Government was this afternoon asked to grant a subsidy of $3,000 a mile | for the first ten miles of the Bruce. Mines & Algoma Railway, and & slm?ar 4 ; amount for the first ten miles of the | Worthington & Og.?plng Railway. Both | railways are intended to promote the | development of important mineral de-- | posits. * 4 ! Municipal" Committee. | _ The Municipal! Mr. Richardson's bill proposing | to exclude a town separating from a | county from any; share of the assets | of --the latter waghot favorably regard-- \ ed.
