Mr. Hoyle wanted to hnave a vote on the bill. but as there is an unwritten rule that no divisions should take place on Friday or Monday, when the at-- tendance is slim, the measure had to stand. Preée-- mier stated that there were four mort-- gages which were sold, making up the total of $50,362 mentioned in statement No. 10 of the Financial Commission's report, three of which were sold in 1889 and one in 1890. For the three mort-- gages $35,055 were received, and for the one $12,686, and all bore 5 per cent. interest, payable half--yearly, The sin« gle mortgage was sold to the trustees of University College, and the three were assigned to the Toronto General Trusts Company, who advanced thereon the funds of lunatics' estates. Mr. Hoyle moved the second reading of a bill providing that there should be no junior Judge in the County of Jn-- tario, He argued that there were now three Judges in the county doing the tKusiness that one could discharge with-- out being overworked. The peopnle were complaining of the millstont around their necks in the form of taxes requir-- ed for the administration of justice. The bilt would go into effect in the 'event of a vacancy occurring in the Judiciary of the county. Hon. Mr. Gibson agreed with Mr. Carnegie that that method of distribu-- tion entailed some hardship, and thanked Mr. Carnegie for calling his uiltention to it. The motion passed. Junior Judge of Ontario.
