Mr. Dryden Makes Some Expla- nations in Regard to the San Jose Scale-Estimates Considered. Yesterday afternoon Hon. John Dry- den took advantage of the opportun- ity afforded by the motion for the second reading of a. bill to amend the San Jose scale act, to give a resume ot the operations for eradicating this pest so destructive to fruit trees. He an- nounced that the policy of the depart- ment hereafter would be to encourage the treatment of trees in fruit or- chards rather than to insist upon com- pulsory destruction. A part ot the afternoon and the whole of the evening was spent in Committee of Supply. A good deal of valuable time was occu-! pied by the Opposition in trying to dia-, credit the statement that the yearly _ profits of the London farm amounted to $9,000. A black eye was given to the Conservative critics. however, when Capt. Robson. one of the Opposition l members. rose and said that the County [of Middlesex was very productive. es- fpecially in the matter of roots and :vegetables. and probably Hon. Mr. Stratton was quite right in his state- ment. Consumption Sanitoria. Hon. Mr. Stratton introduced a bill to provide tor Provincial aid for the establishment ot sanitoria for consump- tives. Resolutions For Tuesday. It was decided to take up the reso- ilutions authorizing grants of money for encouraging the cultivation of sugar beets and for promoting the es- tabiishment of cold-storage buildings, on Tuesday next. The bill to provide for the incorpora- tion of co-operative coltriorage as- scciations was again considered in committee and reported. It now stands I--------
