Mr. Hanna undertook to have them ready after some days,. In reply to Lieut.--Colonel Munro, the Premier said the Government had not |so far come to any conclusion with re-- lgard to amendments to the assessment act, but would consider all amendments _« offered on their merits. Mr. C. N. Smith (Sault) was inform-- ed by Hon. Mr. Cochrane that the opening of the mineralized section _ of the Gillies timber limit was engaging the attention of the Government, which | would make an announcement before the close of the session. _ The timber li-- ecensees had been notified to have the |timber cut and moved before October 1, and the limit would be thrown open as soon as the timber was got away. Mr. Smith was also informed that th« whole question of the refining of nickel within the Province was under consid-- eration,. as to the proper action to be taken by the Government. On motion of the Premier and Hon. -- Mr. Foy the following committee to as-- sist the Speaker in the control of the Legislative library _ was appointed :-- | |The Premier, Hon. Messrs. Foy, Mathe« son, Pyne. Hendrie, Hanna, Koss, and Messtrs. Lucas, Harcourt, Graham, Pres-- ton (Brant). On motion of the Premier, seconded by Hon. Mr. Foy. the foilowing were ap-- pointed a committee to prepare lists of members to compose the select standing committees of the House. Hon. Messrs, Foy, Matheson, _ Willoughby, Preston (Lanark), Mahafty, Thompson (Simeoe), Hoyle, Clark (Bruce). MacKay, Pense, Graham, Preston (Brant). Notices of motion were giren by Mr. Thompson (Simeoe) for to--morrow of a bill to amend the municipal act. and by Mr. Smith (Peel) of a bill to aAmend the franchise law. Mr. E. J. B. Pense will present | a petition to--day from 150 residents of | Kingston, who are dissatisfied with <he 'street railway agreement, in favor of which petitions have already been pre-- fsentod from the City Council and the general public. _ The petition protests against the discontinuance _ of some | branch lines. | Dr. Smellie (Fort William). who has :nndergono a severe operation -- during |the- past two months. was in his seat yesterday. _ He is under medical direc-- tion to take a year's rest. * The Liberal caucus will assemble to-- 4 day after luncheon to be tendered by Hon.
