At some length Mr. Hanna explained the expenditure of $100.000 for changes te Toronto Asylum. _ The building was in a bad state of repair, and equipment was defective. The land had been valued at $200,000. _ The asylum would have to be moved from its present site and some other provision must be made. A new hospital for the insane in --eon-- nection with the new Toronto General Hospital was one of the courses open to theimm. This would do much towards the education of the medical profession in the treatment of mental diseases. Patients who could be eured would be treated there, and only chromic cases removed to an asylum,. Producer Gas Power. Mr. MacKay spoke on behalf of the municipalities who corld not hops for cheap water power. _ HMe suggested that 2 few thousand dollars be spent to $e-- eure expert information as to the cheaP- est alternative power that these people could hope to obtain, as, for example, producer gas and its possibilities. Mr. MacKay named sevreral firms within striking distance of Niagara which had installed gas producer plants. The supplementary estimates for pub-- lic buildings. in all $166,200, were pass-- ed en bloc. Mr. Studholme again made a protest against the Government for its Central Prison labor contract, and moved a mo-- tion regretting that goods made by pri-- son labor were not stamped as such.
