The deputation received the lusual promise of consideration from lute Prime Minister. Hon. Dr. I Reaume. Minister of Public Works, 'assured them that the department recognized the importance of keep- ing the roads in repair. and that the Government was prepared to co-op- erate with the counties in this direc- tion. There was no word of what form the Federal assistance to the highways construction will take. the Minister remarking that plans have not been worked out yet. Mr. L. A. Hambly of Lorne Park presented the resolutions urging that} the manufacture of narrow-tire wag-y gons be prohibited after two years.v and their use in Ontario after seven years. These provisions. he explain-: ed. would be. incorporated in the hill: to he introduced by Mr. A. M. Rang kin, member for Frontenac. I Mr. E. M. Young of Picton ex-! plained the resolution dealing with 'the taxing of motor carriages. The association approved of the following ltax: Up to twenty horsepower, twen- ty-tive cents per horsepower; from 'twenty to thirty horsepower. fifty cents per horsepower; from thirty to forty horsepower, seventy-tive cents per horsepower; over forty horse- power, $1.00 per horsepower. Mr.', Young pointed out that the amount! realized in this way could be devoted towards the maintenance of the roads. The deputation left after giving three cheers for Sir James and his Ministers.
