FOR SNIDER'S CONDUCT LAUDS OFFTICER WHO TOOK PART INX sCoTT ACT CAM-- l PAIGNS, During a discussion of the esti-- mates in thev Legislature late last evening Hon. Mr. Hanna gave the House his promised statement in re-- gard to the part played by Licenge Inspector W. K. Snider in the recent Scott act campaigns in Welland, Peel and Huron counties. Mr. Hanna con-- |cluded his statement as follows:-- | --_*'The Chief Inspector of the License Branch some time ago prepared a statement dealing with this matter at some length, and which was sent to the newspapers for publication with a view to calling the attention of the| public generally to some of the most glaring defects of this act. A copy of this statement was, I am informed, handed to Mr. Snider, among others, and in his--visits to the places in ques-- tion he, I believe, used this statement for the purpose of emphasizing -- ms views on this question. "I think it is only fair to say that T consider Mr. Snider a most capable and energetic officer, who has by his work contributed in no small degree to the improvement of hotels through-- out the Province, and under the cir-- cumstances I do not feel called upon] to apologize for what he did, as I am | fully persuaded that it was in the best interests both of the general public and of the temperance caus4. As to the reliability of Mr. Snider'sl word, I have to say that it has neverl been called in question to my know-q ledge by anyone who knows him, and | I have the greatest -- confidence in: him." |
