Second reading was given to a bill introduced by Mr. Joseph Rus-- sell to legalize the gift of three air-- , planes by the city of Toronto to the Imperial Army Council, the cost of which was $22,000. The bill was referred to the Municipal Commit-- tee. To protect the purchasers of | wood, Mr. Colin 8. Cameron (North Grey) introduced an amendment to ;the Municipal Act, giving munici-- palities the right to pass a by--law requiring that all firewood or cord-- wood offered for sale be sold by the | cord, and that that term shall incan 128 cubic feet. The bill also pro-- ! vides that the wood offered for sale on the market shall be measurel by the inspector and the measurement placed conspicuously on the load, and that the inspector shall also give a certificate to the owner of the wood. This certificate must be handed over to the purchaser, Mr. G. H Gooderham's bill to amend the Municipal Act regulating annexations to cities, for the auth-- ! orizing of stands on highways for the parking of autos, anrd the pro-- | hibiting of the erection of garages [ in some residential districts, was | siven its second reading.
