Fmda,,'Feb. 2(th. Province -- Wide _ Deputation Places Grievances Before Provincial Secretary Asking that the municipality grantl for indigent patients be increased from $1.50 to $2.00 per day; that an 'allowance be made for indigent in-- fants born in hospitals; that the Provincial per diem grant be raised from 50 to 55 cents; that the period of 120 days over which aid is given, be extended; and that townships! bordering on cities of over 100,000 / be compelled to pay for indigent | patients entering city hospitals, a deputation, representative of every section of Ontario, waited on Hon. Lincoln Goldie, Provincial Secre-- tary, at the . Parliament Buildings | yesterday to press the 'claims of | Ontario hospitals for further Gov-- | ernment grants. Costs Have Increased. | Strong emphasis was laid by the deputation upon the fact that while the cost of a hospital patient was now $3.27 per day, hospital revenues in the same connection amounted to only $2.50. Among those who pressed the '\claims of the deputation were: Dr. Langwill, Superintendent of the Hamilton General Hospital; Major A. H. Murphy, of London:; Chairman Revell of the Brantford General Hospital, and Dr. A. A. McDonald ; of Toronto. [ Hon. Mr. Goldie was very sympa-- thetic to the request of the depu-- tation. In reply, he said that he had considered introduction of legis-- | lation _ whereby -- hospital deficits| would be put in the general tax> rate, but had refrained from putting this legislation in effect, inasmuch as the problem involved was a very | | difficult one. He felt that this ac--| tion was the right action, but was | afraid it might have the effect of | destroying the interest of charitably inclined people in the hospitals. 'May Get Legislation. _ That the cities had a very real grievance in the matter of the care | of township patients in the large ; hospitals was admitted by Mr.' Goldie, who promised that legisla-- | tion covering this difficult problem | would be introduced. Expressing : the desire that he might have the ; closest co--operation of the Hospitals' Association, Mr,. Goldie declared he' would make arrangements to meet| the Legislative Committee later in | the day for a conference upon legis-- lation to be brought in at this aes-' , sion of the House. f
