\ s * March + i s f _ Must Guarantee Analysis, Nitrogen, Phosphoric Acid and Potash ' The season for buying fertilizers has arrived, and it is well that the farmers shou'ld know how to protect themselves in making surs that they are delivered the kind and analysis of fertilizer which they purchase. The Federal Fertilizers Act offers the means through which this may be done. This act requires that every fortilizer Gelivered to a farmer must be labelled with the guaranteed analysis in terms;' of nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash, | so that the first thing that should be | done when the fertilizer arrives is to| check the guaranteed analysis and see if it is the same as that purchased. If it is short 1 per cent. nitrogen it is worth approximately $2.50 per ton less than the purchase price, and phosphoric acid and potash are worth about $1 for . each per cent. Purchasers are advised to refuse ac-- : ceptance of fertilizer which is not labelled with precisely the same guaran-- teed analysis as that purchased. The ~ fertilizer division of the Department of Agriculture is anxious that farmers re-- ceive the greatest possible benefit from | the protection that the Fertilizers Act | -- affords. Should any purchaser have ; substantial reason for doubting theI value of a fertilizer which is delivered | to him he is invited to communicate im-- l mediately with the nearest Federal fer-- | | tilizer inspector, who will be glad to in-- : vestigate the matter first hand. In such case the farmer could protect himself | | by deferring payment until the inspec-- | | tor has completed his investigation. |
