March 20 # Accounts Committee to Scrutinize Northern Ex-- penditure Since 1932 . Northern Developmen: expenditures tot both the Conservative and Liberal Governments are to receive the sharp scrutiny of the Public Accounts Com-- mittee. # Yesterday, at the first meeting of the committee, the Opposition forces moved to have an investigation of certain Northern Ontario highway ex= penditures Gduring the five months ending March 31, 1935. The Government countered the thrust with a resolution asking in-- vestigatior of several i1ems of ex«-- penditure during the fiscal years 19323« 33 and 1934--35. After Arthur Ellis .(Conservative, Oitawa South) moved the Opposition resolution, F. Schwenger (Liberal, Hamilton Centre) introduced the motion for the probe of expenditure by the former Government. Following lengthy discussion of pro-- cedure in connection with the two resolutions, Colonel W. H. Price (Con-- servative, Toronto Parkdale) moved that Colone!l Malcolm Laing, Chairman of Timiskaming & Northern Rail-- way, or such other persons entrusted with purchase of ties, be summoned to testify, along with several persons | he claimed sold ties to the railway.
