fi . September 21 Informing the House that there were some sixty privately--owned power plants in Ontario, producing approximately 500,000 horsepower and valued at more than $100,000,-- 000, Hon. W. L. Houck (Lib., Niagara Falls), vice--chairman of the Ontario * |\ HMydro Commission, said yesterday that smaller companies, particularly, were greatly in favor of the Power Control Act, which is now before $ the Ontario Legislature. \, The act, which will extend Pro-- vincial control of operations to all privately owned power companies in the Province, received second reading and passed through com-- mittee stage yesterday. In response to a question, Mr. Houck told the House that Ontario had sufficient power available to supply the demands of industry for the next eighteen months. £ "The stepping--up of industry has resulted in an increase of 60,000 horsepower over August in the past two weeks," he said. "Making due allowance for the incvitable increase in power demand that will accom-- pany industrial expansion, we have sufficient power available to meet 'all demands for the next year and a half."
