On Wednesday, November 12, the ladies met at South Bay United Church hall at 12 noon to partake of a pot luck lunch which had been missed at the Oc- tober meeting. In the absence of president Sandra, Maureen capably commandeered the meeting. She opened the meeting with a tribute to all who have served to keep our country free. A poem on kindness extended this thought. .C.W. purpose, theme hymn and the Lord’s Prayer followed. Carol’s devotional continued with the theme of service by all who fought in the World Wars. We were reminded that almost 66,000 Canadians paid with their lives. McCrea’s poignant poem, /n Flanders Fields reminded us of the traumas suffered by both sides in these wars. We were treated by Carol sing- ing, Let There Be Peace On Earth accompanied by Verna Hertz on piano. Thank you, ladies, for remind- ing us once more. Roll call was answered with a short fall story with sixteen sick calls also being made. The September minutes were read with one correction made. Treasurer Joyce reported almost $400 raised for Hospice with our coffee party. Donations of mon- ey are going to the food bank, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Children’s Aid and the South Marysburgh Mirror. Alternatives for Women will get a donation of toiletries. We will decide the amount donated to our church in December. Joyce had an interesting program about her father, Ernie Franklin, as he was connected during World War Il. She knew he was a banker but she found out many things about him that she hadn’t known before. The meeting closed with our U.C.W. prayer.
