The South Marysburgh Mirror 5 Personal Notices, Announcements & Random Notes transcriber, Sarah Moran Collier, For those keeping score at home….  The Nelson Hicks entries in the July and August edi(cid:415)ons of The Mirror have been repeated from previous edi(cid:415)ons. In his later years, Nelson appears to have become less prolific in his dedica(cid:415)on to his journals. Nelson's is inves(cid:415)ga(cid:415)ng. The Black River Fall Fes(cid:415)val  As usual, there will be an abundance of ac(cid:415)vi(cid:415)es to keep everyone busy including the Black River Fall Fes(cid:415)val. The  significance  of  the  Labour  Day  Weekend   (LDW)  Although LDW is generally associated with the end of summer or a return to classes, it also reminds members of the South Marysburgh community that the annual Milford Fall Fair is fast approaching, this year being held on September 14th. As always, there is plenty of need for volunteers to help put it all together. If you have some (cid:415)me to spare and would like to offer your services (or your sandwiches and home baking to sell at the food booth) , please visit the fair's website, the address of which is conveniently located under this last line in the column. informa(cid:415)on signs will available Please visit! www.milfordfallfair.com Believe It or Not  Leisure Time Observa(cid:415)ons  Si(cid:427)ng on my deck with a cup of coffee in the early morning is a great (cid:415)me for thinking and observing. I live in a picturesque se(cid:427)ng with lots of trees and colourful neighbours so there is plenty to see and hear. What a soulful sound to hear a loon pass overhead, calling to his mate. And the crows are complaining in their own inimitable way. Not to be le(cid:332) out, a (cid:415)ny wren squeaks repeatedly for a(cid:425)en(cid:415)on. As the sun rises, it enhances the sparkle of the spider web strung across the entryway. What a perfect place to trap something or - somebody. There's a male cardinal hopping under the spruce tree, picking up his breakfast. And, there's his subdued wife joining him to partake a(cid:332)er a brief exchange on the way. With their bright colouring, how do they escape their predators? And there is the neighbour's family of squirrels scurrying for cones from the conifers. Oh, oh. Here comes their cat but the young ones don't seem to be concerned. Maybe they haven't learned the lesson of survival yet. The wind swaying the branches of the trees has a mesmerizing effect on the mind. How does a tree survive hurricane force winds, freezing, thawing and drought? A(cid:332)er all, it must stand in one place and endure whatever comes. What is all the ruckus about? That li(cid:425)le banty rooster flew on the neighbour and knocked his hat off. It's quite amusing to see this feisty li(cid:425)le rascal take on anything that moves. The buzz of the passing cars is disturbing the morning serenity. Not everyone has the privilege to sit, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. B.I.O.N. ST.
