2 The South Marysburgh Mirror Cyber Crime As part of its Cyber Security Ini(cid:415)a(cid:415)ve, the IT Department of the municipality sends out email no(cid:415)ces of current events that are ac(cid:415)vely ongoing in the hope that they will raise awareness of these threats to protect your own digital informa(cid:415)on at home. They are reprinted in the South Marysburgh Mirror with permission. Scam Of The Week: Cyber Monday is Scammer Heaven It's Holiday Season for the bad guys too! But not the way you might think. They go into scam-overdrive mode. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the busiest on-line shopping days and they are out to get rich with your money. So what to look out for? At the moment, there are too-good-to-be-true coupons that offer complimentary phones or tablets all over sites on the Internet. Don't fall for it. Make sure the offers are from a legi(cid:415)mate company. While we're at it... Watch out for alerts via email or text that you just received a package from FedEx, UPS or the US Mail, and then asks you for some personal informa(cid:415)on. Don't enter anything. Think Before You Click! So, especially now, the price of freedom is constant alertness and willingness to fight back. Remember to only use credit cards online, never debit cards. Be super-wary of bulk email with crazy good BUY NOW offers and anything that looks slightly "off". Always remember: "When in doubt, throw it out!" forward, please do not Also moving Scam Of The Week: Massive Ne(cid:414)lix Phishing A(cid:425)ack as well The email has the subject There is a massive scam campaign going on, this (cid:415)me a very well executed Ne(cid:414)lix phishing a(cid:425)ack. The scam targets subscribers telling them that their account is about to be canceled. The well-designed, personalized fake email convinces customers to update their account informa(cid:415)on to avoid suspension. This results in stolen personal and credit card informa(cid:415)on. line "Your suspension no(cid:415)fica(cid:415)on" and includes a link where the subscriber is taken to a fake Ne(cid:414)lix page which requires their log-in informa(cid:415)on number. The scam was detected Sunday, November 19th and it targets nearly 110 million Ne(cid:414)lix subscribers. As men(cid:415)oned, the fake site includes Ne(cid:414)lix's logo as well as popular Ne(cid:414)lix shows like "The Crown" and "House of Cards" to make it seem legi(cid:415)mate. Don't fall for this type of scam. If you want to change the se(cid:427)ngs of subscrip(cid:415)on services like this, never click on links in any email but instead just type the name of the site in your browser, or use a bookmark that you have saved.
