2 The South Marysburgh Mirror Milford Library Branch Check It Out By Leah Garfield-Wright Once the ice melts, people flow through the door of the library. Spring(cid:415)me rouses people from their winter habits and encourages new paths to form, with many leading right up the ramp and into this branch! Heraclitus of Ephesus, ancient Greek philosopher, spoke about rivers: "Ever-newer waters flow on those who step into the same rivers." If you a(cid:425)ended the County Reads event last month, you heard Shelagh Mathers lauding Helen Humphreys' book "The River" with such beau(cid:415)ful praise that it was voted to the top of the County Reads stack. "The River" and all the County Reads candidates are worth reading. This month, let the current guide you to the library and see if it has changed since the last (cid:415)me you stepped foot inside...and see how your presence might shape the next 25 years. Keep reading for details on a celebra(cid:415)on of the past 25 years and the future. April was busy here! The Easter Hat Decora(cid:415)ng a(cid:425)racted dozens of talented designers of all ages and stripes, eager to add flowers and ribbons or otherwise fancify their caps. The Stone Soup Guild con(cid:415)nues to grow, and at our last mee(cid:415)ng ("Ge(cid:427)ng Plants in the Ground"), over a dozen people came with food and ideas about growing food. The Milford Free Book Club had a rousing conversa(cid:415)on about their last book, which patrons liked for different reasons. And lastly, we hosted the launch of Nature Ma(cid:425)ers! by PEPTBO - copies available at the library! Looking ahead, we have two events, one musical, and one very Milford-al. Sunday, May 27 will be the 2nd Annual Cabaret. This is a fundraiser for the PEC M.I.L.L. (Musical Instrument Lending Library) sec(cid:415)on as part of the Picton Library expansion project, and the entertainment --with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres-- will be held at the Picton Yacht Club. This will be a very musical a(cid:332)ernoon all will enjoy! Next up is the celebra(cid:415)on lunch and launch of the 25th year anniversary of the construc(cid:415)on of the current library building in Milford! The theme is: 25 Years Ago, 25 Years Ahead. The fascina(cid:415)ng history of what happened "25 Years Ago" is elsewhere in this issue, by Susan McDonald, Chair of the Friends of the Milford Library, who spoke with the community members who made this space possible. As for the "25 Years Ahead," it is up to you to write the story! What do you picture happening here in the next 25 years? Come to the celebra(cid:415)on lunch and launch on June 3 to meet other Milford-ians and South Marysburgh-ites who are invested in the future. There will be ac(cid:415)vi(cid:415)es for all ages. Our library is always changing, a reflec(cid:415)on of the current popula(cid:415)on, with new eddies, and novel streams, and abundant circula(cid:415)ons in a rela(cid:415)vely reliable shoreline. "Everything flows," said Heraclitus. Flow this way in May, check out a book, and read it and ponder the flowing nature of water, words, and...everything. A wonderful place to do that is where the Mill Pond meets the Black River.
