The South Marysburgh Mirror Sarah's Research Notes Insight, Information & Anecdotes About Nelson Hicks' Journal Entries Lots of trips to Toronto this month; with a 25mph speed limit, it must have been a long drive! Nelson's son Wrexford, Ray Dulmage, Donal Welbanks and Harrie Hicks head to Toronto for the Older Boys' Parliament. This began in 1921 as a youth program within the United Church of Canada and was focussed on leadership skills and democra(cid:415)c principles. At annual parliamentary sessions, boys selected as representa(cid:415)ves of their local churches gathered to work out ideas and debate issues of the day. By 1928 there were 2000 groups and 30,000 boys registered in groups governed by these Boys' Parliaments. The parliaments quickly became more ecumenical and eventually allowed girls, a(cid:332)er much debate, for a trial period of a year, in 1968! www.minakersautoparts.ca Copy & Adver(cid:415)sing Deadline for the December Edi(cid:415)on of The Mirror is November 23rd www.southmarysburghmirror.com
