The South Marysburgh Mirror October 2022 / 5 Meet Ryan Kreutzwiser, Running for Election in South Marysburgh (Continued from page 1) in Environmental Science. He and Danielle met while he was studying at the Centre of Geo- graphic Sciences in Nova Sco- tia. His career followed a path of environmental consulting, working first in the United States followed by a number of years working remotely from a Picton location. Gradu- ally he was drawn into his in- law’s business and in 2009 he left the consulting business behind and joined the Chre- tien family business full time. His connection with South Marysburgh is through family property ownership. His family purchased the land and associ- ated buildings near the mouth of the Black River on which the company known as the Black River Cheese Company sits. When the Black River Cheese Company sold, Gay Lea bought the operating busi- ness and his famly purchased the property. He says he has courted a long-time interest in commu- nity service through municipal politics but thought it would take place when he reached his 50’s rather than in his 40’s. “Municipal government is often overlooked but it is ex- tremely important because the decisions that are made there, impact us immensely,” he says, adding that he be- lieves Prince Edward County is at a critical juncture. “Decisions that are made to- day will affect the County for years to come.” He threw his hat into the race in South Marysburgh just before the deadline closed when he concluded “it was absolutely necessary”. “| was waiting to see who would come forward and what their platform and pri- orities would be. | didn’t want the election in South Marysburgh to be by accla- mation. | think the public should get involved and there should be discussion and de- bate about priorities,” he said. Ryan credits the work done to preserve areas in South Marysburgh, such as Ostrander Point, but says use of the land is “about bal- ance”. “| don’t want the heritage of South Marysburgh to be detrimentally impacted, and | don’t want to see access prohibited either. | believe that conservation efforts need to be holistic.” “People who have ATVs or want to use their bicycles, for example, should be able to use the area as long as it’s done with responsibility and re- spect. If done well, it will be beneficial to residents and visitors alike, because they will have access to this amazing County in which they live. Con- servation efforts on these lands should be directed at prohibiting large scale devel- opment.” He would advocate, he says, for a thriving small busi- ness area in Milford which he describes as “a jewel of the County”, with cars lining the streets, a bistro and conven- ience/general store where people could purchase the (Continued on page 7) NUTRITIONAL THERAPY + eX Meov-Jamal=)| oe ere’s how: é NATALIEFADER.COM RNT, NNCP, CBT MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLING digestive issues inflammation stress/anxiety/ depressive symptoms CBT food behaviour dietary changes youth counselling goal setting lifestyle changes Meet from the comfort of home over phone, zoom or facetime.
