|The South Marysburgh Mirror WISHING ALL OF OUR FRIENDS The Circle ladies celebrated their Christmas pot luck dinner at Jean Burrows on Thursday, December 7th and what a feast it was . We all contributed to our social time with trivia, readings, contests, and talking about our Christmas tradi- tions. Some make mincemeat, stirring three times and mak- ing a wish; others go to a Christmas service then go home and make their cake; some make a pork pie or tortiere; in some families the adults make the presents for exchange. After a very enjoyable social time, the ladies thanked the hostess for graciously welcoming everyone into her home, gaily exchanging Christmas wishes and wending their way to their homes. Quilts for the Homeless Winter is now upon us and with it comes the cold, nasty weather. It makes me wonder, when I snuggle into my soft, warm, dry, comfortable bed, whether are the homeless sleeping tonight? Are they in some store front doorway, huddled for warmth in a cardboard box or per- haps over a register that generates a bit of heat? ere are hostels where they may sleep overnight but I understand that they don't like to use these unless it's solutely necessary, for various reasons. They have to take their few worldly possessions with them and if anoth- er inhabitant needs what this person has, it may be miss- ing, come morning. Quite often the people who use these facilities aren't in the best of health, so there is the danger of pick- ing up an illness while there. This is probably very easy to happen as no doubt the immune systems are weakened. If the powers that be cannot solve this problem of homelessness, what can we do? We constitute only a drop in the bucket.
