So on March 29" of 09, to prevent a “mini civil war” the Coun- ty held a plebiscite. “Are you in favor of wind farms in PEC? Yes or No”. The No-side won. Everyone was happy the issue is now settled. Three days later, Joseph, the pessimist, and David, the opti- mist, met at Tim Hortons. As they talked about the vote on wind farms, they noticed a tall willowy blonde fixing her face on the next table. She put her make-up case away, got up and introduced herself. She said she was Leona Dom- browsky your local MPP, and Minister of Agriculture. She couldn’t help overhearing their talk on wind farms. She asked them to tell no-one what she is about to tell them now... She just came from a Cabinet meeting and the Premier was pleased to hear the County wants no wind farms. So the Cabinet decided to put an ultra-modern garbage incinerator that will turn Toronto’s garbage into electricity on the Gov- emment’s property south of South Bay. “The Government owns the land which means tax payers won’t have to fork out $millions for real estate. Toronto now trucks garbage almost 500kms to Michigan. To bring it here is about 240kms, cutting haulage costs in half. There are good roads for trucks right up to Babylon Road. On the property just a bit of topsoil will be scraped aside and the bedrock will act as a huge paved area, saving taxpayers $millions for paving. Cold water from the lake will be used to cool turbines and hot water goes back. There’Il be jobs because garbage will be spread out to dry and later loaded into the incinerator and burnt. “But please keep this to yourselves, Boys! In a few minutes T’ll meet Leo to inform him. And he, too, is to keep quiet about it.” Dave says, “Oh great, my boys’ll probably find jobs there”. Joseph goes straight to the Anti-Wind Farm Society’s presi- dent to inform him what Leona Dombrowsky just told them - “This calls for action!!!” he shouted. - “We don’t want Toronto’s garbage!!!” The president calls a meeting of his old Anti-wind farm ex- ecutives. He tells them even wind farms are preferable to Toronto’s garbage. “What about the birds?” exclaims one guy. “Let’s not get too carried away about birds” says an- other “Millions of birds get killed by cars and we all keep driving cars! - And millions more birds crash into windows and we don’t board up our windows to save birds.” He gets Continued on page 20
