We invite anyone interested in learning more about how the Friends of the Ann Farwell Library help support the library, or in possibly contributing, to come out to the Open. House. Two key figures in the Friends group resigned this summer and we need new members. The Chair of the Friends of Ann Farwell group, Rita y, recently moved to Picton and after serving for over 10 years, felt it was time to retire from the position. A strong supporter of the library and originator of many successful fundraising initiatives, Rita will be greatly missed by all who have come to know her and work with her. Vernice McConnell, also a long time Friend, has also decided to step down. Vemice has been a loyal supporter of the Ann Farwell branch for many years and was one of the driving forces behind the fundraising efforts for the new building and many other key projects that have helped make the library what it is today. We thank both Vemice and Rita wholeheartedly for all of their work. Volunteers such as these two women really make things happen, and we are all the richer for it. Now, however, we must move on and we hope to enlist new supporters to carry on. We need ideas and fundraisers to continue improving the Ann Farwell branch for all to enjoy. Being a Friend does not necessarily re- quire many hours of your time, and you can choose to work on just one or two projects the entire year. Even if you do not necessarily want to join the Friends, we do hope you will come out and learn about what they do, meet your neighbours at the library, and maybe lear a bit about new services the library offers as well. One of these services is especially timely as the new school year starts. Steven Everhardus, a certified teacher, is available for free tutoring at the library. Whether help is needed in reading, with math, with homework, or a specif- ic school project, students can get one-on-one attention. This is an initiative that has been funded in part by the Picton Friends of the Library and I think this type of coop- Continued on page 20
