June, 2010 — VOLUME XXIV, Number 6 Ue Sout Any Spa ANI OT Published for and about local people and events Picton Rotary Hosts June 12 Concert at the Regent Theatre The Rotary Club of Picton is hosting a live musi- cal event at the Regent Theatre on Saturday, June 12. This event will be produced by Monique Michaud, who is designing it to highlight the depth and diversity of the County’s musical talents. Her theme, “Come To- gether’, will feature local musicians and singers joining their talents with the Rotary Club to support two great causes, the Prince Edward County Hospital Foundation and the Polio Plus Campaign. The Picton Rotary Club, known for its February Oyster Fest, the Wilf Harrison Memorial Golf Touma- ment in August, and other community initiatives, is hoping now to attract people interested in the different kinds of music in the County — and at the same time to help raise money for community initiatives. The evening will offer a great mix of music for all ages. The program features live music that should entertain all ages: Monique Michaud, John and Penny Kitchen, The Frere Brothers, Caleb and Megan Hutton, Rick Grant, and Steve Ireland will headline a cast of talented musicians These artists are well known in the County. Monique Michaud, has an extensive background as a vo- calist. She started singing at weddings and performing io jingles in Sudbury and her ear- ly training included voice lessons from Shania Twain’s voice coach. Since then Monique has fronted sev- eral successful bands as the lead vocalist singing rock, R&B and country. Why would the Rec Committee want to put in a motorized launch on Black River?” “Twas told it would cost taxpayers $250,000 and an- other $50,000 for the public washroom.” “ People will set fire to the marsh.” “ People will set fire along the shore.” “ There will be parties at the site.” “ Staff will have to maintain it.’ “It has to be handicapped accessible and that will be expensive.” “It’s not a good way to spend tax dollars.” So these are just some of the stories folks have been telling me in the last couple of weeks. And they were each speaking about a proposed project of the South Marysburgh Recreation Committee for which I had taken the lead. I have been a member of the Rec- reation Committee for longer than I have been on Council, so over 10 years. In that time, and for many years before, the Recreation Committee has taken on many such projects.
