Since Penny’s return to the Quinte area, she and John continued their music - with a pause for the birth of their daughter, Roanna! More recent- ly, Penny and John have begun again to deliver music that interests them. Penny’s artistic contributions will be a spe- cial asset to the show. The Frere Brothers are well known to everyone for their unofficial Prince Edward County theme song "The Mushroom Plant". Long time county residents, Mark Des- pault and Alec Lunn provide a unique take on Life in the “County” through there many original songs and parodies. Both accomplished musicians, the Frere Brothers perform regularly and have produced several recordings, the most recent being “The Frere Brothers ....Live at Mount Tabor Playhouse”. Caleb and Megan Fiutton are 4 a great example of the-talented. lon empty gas canisters in Kenya during spontaneous con- certs and street dances. Rick has started playing again on a regular basis with the County Theatre Group and their highly successful Jesus Christ Super Star. Support for this event will help Rotary raise funds for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospi- tal Foundation. It will also contribute to helping meet the Rotary Club International’s pledge to raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 mil- lion will directly support immunization campaigns in de- veloping countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and com- pounding the hardships faced by their families. While the disease is essentially eradicated in the West, it is incredibly infectious and remains a worldwide threat. In addition to the music, Rotary is arranging to lhave a silent auction. We already have a number of unique litems, all graciously donated to help support this effort. More items are always welcome. J “Instant Rivaly” is well ome in ‘ie area. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.“ She’s not resigned to death. Neither is Woody Allen whose famous quote says, “I’m not id to die, Ijust don’t want to be there when it happens.” Yup. That’s the case for most of us. Deny. Deny. Deny. Die. This column is pretty much a downer, isn’t it? That probably explains why death is not an ideal ice breaker at a cocktail party or an old folks home. - George Underhill Tickets are $25.00 each and are availa- ble from selected Picton Rotarians or at the Regent Theatre Box office.
