Vox P opuli Your letters to the editor The editor How about that election, eh! Everyone is trying to interpret the meaning of the N.D.P. sweep. Most of the politicians are still sticking to the "party platform" reasons for success, or failure. It is my considered view that "parties" and their issues are not the tone of the note struck. It seems ob- vious that people are tired of the "good 'ol boys club". Granted the political chips fell regionally right for the N.D.P. considering the popular vote, but, a need exists to understand that the voting populaceis still, indeed, the power. Everyone must get this mes- sage loud and clear, especially Bob Rae. Both the Liberals and the Conser- vative have got their feathers clipped. Now the N.D.P's have got a mandate to "put-up or shut-up". History will record who gets gagged next. Could we be catching a glimpse of a groundswell wave that will bring non- partisan politics to a crest, where the balance of power is held by a majority of "independent" representatives? Hindsight will be the judge of that scenario also. Sincerely yours, David Whattam PS Another definition of an "ex- pert'is "Someone from out-of-town." The editor The other day, quite by chance, I came to realize that could contribute money directly to the Ann Farwell Library in Milford, and get a receipt for tax purposes from the township. Bev since the procedure governing such a contribution sounds a bit cir- cuitous, why don't you devise, and YOUR LETTERS TO THE EDITOR describe in the Mirror a simple proce- dure for folks to follow in contribution directly to the library with the as- surance that they will receive a tax deductible receipt. Canadians justifiably have a reputation for prudence and thrift in financial matters - in other words they like to get their money's worth. Well you couldn't find a better example of getting the maximum "bang for your buck" than the Ann Farwell Library, for the following reasons: I It is operated with maximum ef- ficiency at the lowest possible cost. IT It provides a service of ines- timable value to the people of this township, children, old folks and everyone in between benefit. III You can't beat the deal! Every dollar we donate to that library buys a full one dollar's worth of value for the township. When that same dollar is routed through the government as tax, it probably loses at least 70% in value by the time it comes back as grant. Keep up the good workRegards, Owen E Hardendorf Dear Editor, What a wonderful surprise in Mil- ford yesterday! at last the old Bongard fish house is down and this morning coming into the Coffee Gallery the vista opening to the millpond reminds me of a discussion we had about the truly fine view we can all enjoy, if we think carefully. There has been talk of a fire hall, although we already have perfectly adequate home for the fire truck, and also mention of a parking lot. What about preserving the lovely vista by the simple and inexpensive work of grass seed and a few plants? Should we ab- solutely need a water supply for the fire truck, then a low structure to house a pump and hydrant would not impair the view and we should not need the unnecessary cost of a fire hall and its inevitable impact on our taxes and the loss of the newly opened view of the millpond. I think this matter is important to every South Marysburgh resident and suggest should be thoroughly reviewed before any other action is taken. How about a public meeting after a preliminary discussion through the invaluable columns of your excellent paper? There is cer- tainly a lot to talk about isn't there! - Sincerely Alan G. Dacombe
