If nothing of interest is happening, you will know by its not being written about. Here it is St. Valentine's Day again - and my poinsettias are still hale and hearty andthere are those two stray ornaments left ove from the Christmas decorations that have yet to be put away. Oh well - so what sise is new? But oh St. Valentine's Day, that day when we celebrate romance. When children exchange cut-out Valentines and the teacher always get at least 20 valentines the same. Then there are the SPECIAL Valentines for that significant other in your life. (Now how's that for politically correct - but | do wonder -- significant in what way?) | norcnnaihs h persenany nave my eye on a box of chocolates aye box of choco that I saw in town, not because | want the choco- lates, but I'm particularly fond of the Victorian picture on the heart shaped box. Its safe to men- tion this in the Mirror, as my significant other is still one issue behind in his reading, and won't see this until March, so | can't be accused of hinting. There is a lot to be said for being able, once a year, 10 give something silly and frivolous to someone of whom we are fond. At Christmas there is still a hint of Calvinistic practicality to our giving, that for the most of us, does not allow us tc be completely impractical. Not so St. Valentine's Day. A 99 cent violet just coming into bloom can say '| love vou or 'you're important to me' just as well as two dozen long stemmed roses, and the flowers are aiot easier to press in one's memory book. A pag of cinnamon hearts, given with a hug is an accep able gift for the under three foot crowd. They will tolerate the hug to get the hearts. A fishing lure and the guarantee of a day of choice, free from household responsibilities is something to be considered for the man around the house. Whatever you give, remember hugs are free and come in all sizes. Then there are smiles, which can be worn by anyone. Happy St. Valentine's Day.
