Deadline for May issue of the Mirror - 28 April, 1995 FIRST MILFORD SCOUTIN G Scouting in the Milford area is composed of five different levels in- cluding ages from 5 years old to 21 years. We are known as First Milford Scouting, but the group draws youth from South Marysburgh, Athol and North Marysburgh townships. We have one boy from Hallowell and one from Picton. The movement hopes to meet the needs of the youth in the area, First Milford Scouts are on the road again. The Troop are driving to the Newfoundland Jamboree in July. We are going to leave July 5th and return July 18th. The Scouts who are going are Sean Insley and James Rogers of R.R.#1 Cherry Valley; Shawn Rivers of R.R.#1 Picton; and Chris Surnnucks of R.R.#1 Milford. Judy Zeleny will be their leader for the two weeks The Troop is hoping that Kevin Belanger-Taylor and David Sunnucks will be joining us. Jon Zeleny will be going if health permits. Each person will be paying the registration of $110.00 from their own pocket. The balance of the cost of transportation and food will be paid from our special Jamboree Bank Ac- count. We do have a small problem with the transportation. My truck is okay for the amount of people going now, but if more people go, it is too small. We are looking for a van that would usually sit about 12 people. This would allow for everyone to stretch out and gear. To rent one from a Rental Agency it will be $1000.00, therefore, we are looking for one we can borrow or rent cheaper, The Troop is not doing any major fundraising as the Venturer Com- pany did in 1993 to go to Canadian Jamboree in Alberta. For one reason, the overall cost is less. The transportation in 1993 was more as the youth flew and the registration cost was $425.00 in 1993, Since we went to the Canadian Jamboree, we found a new way of raising funds. Besides tt is easier on everyone involved. This is where you, as a reader can help us! Everyone buys groceries. Well the IGA and Food City stores will gives us money for their Sales Receipts. This is where the readers come In, please save them for our Troop. For every $300.00 we collect in receipts, IGA will give us $1.00. To you, it does not seem like a lot of money, but everyone usually throws those receipts in the garbage and to our Troop, they are gold. The only prob- lem with the receipts is that they will fade easily, so you must store them in a dark place while saving the receipts for the Troop. IGA Receipts can be dropped off at MILFORD POST OFFICE; ANN FARWELL LIBRARY in MILFORD; BLACK RIVER CHEESE FACTORY; WRIGHT'S DRUG STORE PHAR- MACY in PICTON; ATHOL TOWN HALL or my Mail Box/Whig Standard Box. First Milford Scouts and Venturers will continue this fundraiser on a regular basis as in 1997, the Canadian Jamboree will be held in Thunder Bay. Since First Milford Scouts and Venturers started saving receipts in 1983, many of the residents have been very faithful to our group. Now is the time to Thank you whole heart- ily from the bottom of our hearts for all the work you have done for us. Some people who come to mind are; Eleanor Istead who is alway looking for new people to collect receipts; Joan Keogh at the Post Office who adds to the box even when the receipts are thrown in the night deposit; Dodie Dance in the Library who keeps a watchful eye on our envelop; the workers in the Phar- macy at Wrights Drug Store for the nuisance of receipts turn in with prescriptions; and finally Bev Wil- liams in Athol township for collecting receipts in the township office before our envelop appeared. Once again to all residents and key people who help First Milford Scouting THANK You! By Judy Zeleny Letter to Editor Dear Friends: This letter is intended to remind everyone that ance again the (now) annual spring Trash Bash is under way for April 29, 1995 (to be exact). Reviewing the response of last year, | could not help but noticethere could have been more people in- volved, as many hands make light work. It occurred to me that we could have received a greater deal of help from those that were unable to secure employed and were on social assistance. From information obtained, it ap- pears there are over 600 recipients of the county's social assistance programme. itwould beto extend our invitation tothose persons to join in. iam sure that they would be pleased to give something back to the county and their neighbourhoods, if only to show their gratitude for the privileges they enjoy. Let's all get involved this year and phone Keith Tayior at PE.R.C.A. or lan Balsillie at 476-3813 and add your name to the list of volunteers. See you all on the roadside.
