Fi iis a i sili i oe le It's here! IT'S HERE! I know it's here. The cows got out. I have a daffodil in bloom. I tried out the "new' push mower.... worked fine once I got it started. The man came and planted our balsam fir. The cows got out. Kathy's home from university. There's a Federal Election called. The cows got out. Every third house has a for sale sign.... no those aren't the new 911 signage. Starlings are doing mating dances on our deck rail. So spring is so here. And then there are things 1 do every spring without fail... and guess what? I've done them again this year. I planted my flower seeds too early and now have these small shrubs growing in the front window waiting for me to put them out. Ive dug up the same chrysanthemum twice and replanted it. I have industriously pulled out the lupines and left behind the weed that 1 was sure was them. But it's good to be predictable. Some things are very predictable though. The election will bring out all the political cliches we could ever want. The "Feds' are giving back some of the money they have been holding for just such an event. The Reform Party is yelling fowl that thev should be thought to be racially biased or homophobic. The Conservatives want to change the gun laws and bring back Capital Punishment (not for all murders, just for some). The N.D.P. .... well I'm not really sure what they want to do. It will all get sadder as the election date gets nearer. No one is talking about the environment that we live in, nor are we really thinking about it other than to be glad that it's spring and gosh but we need some rain. The flood in Manitoba which is a direct result of a hundred years of environmental mismanagement is going to cost all Canadians a great deal of money and should at least make us think. And to have an election while the flood victims are mourning the loss of their livelihood, their keepsakes, their homes, farms and businesses seems a bit unfeeling especially when there is still a year and a half to go in the present government's mandate. Maybe the thing to do before we vote is get to know the person we are voting for as there doesn't seem to Ii I a LL { o | St J R 1 i) Continued on page 2 ay ni Hl J Hpbi ) mm 7 ILI i = il TE tag r bl 1 ili I he | hey li I OF nh i J I | nD : 1} Ll Al I il 8 rir li t "The Madwomen o Marysburgh h in Concert" Saturday, May 10, 8 p.m. at Mt. I've worked with Suzanne Pasternak, Jeanette Arsenault and Emily Fennell and we all live in either North or South Marysbuigh. so it seemed a natural to get us all on stage together. And since everyone thinks we're all mad for doing what we do, the name "Madwomen of Marysburgh" just seemed to jump right out at us.'
