Their tracks led to an old well that the top has rotted through on and we checked it several times to be sure they hadn't fallen in. We phone around to see if anyone had a pair of strays and no one had. They were a pretty distinctive pair, especially the yearling bull. He was born in the coldest part of February last year and when we found him had been encased in ice from the freezing rain that night. He spent a few days with his mom in the centre of our barn, wrapped in blankets and with a heat lamp. His ears were trimmed a bit by frostbite and so was his tail so he was easy to recognize. Somehow they managed to shut themselves into the lower part of an abandoned barn. They were sixteen days without food or water but for all that are looking pretty good and I understand the bull calf was having a head butting contest with another youngster in the herd this afternoon so they seem to be back to normal. Well we are almost two months into the new County of Prince Edward and the world hasn't come to an end. It's rather nice to have the election over for it means we don't have politicians at community events or social gatherings. There's a lot to be said for that. 1 understand they are making their presence felt on boards and committees in an attempt to organize the world, but that too will become tedious ere long. I always held the belief that a good elected official created a milieu in which those interested in or assigned to the work could get it done thus making the politico look like the world's best organizer, but there are those that don't hold that view and try to redefine hands on. It's Lent and the folks at St. Philip's are getting into a new Lenten Bible Study. The group will be held each Monday during Lent at 7:30 p.m. in the Rectory. If vou're interested come and join the group. [ heard a red-winged blackbird this morning. The first I've heard this spring. George Ackerman had a pretty good run of sap the other day; about three times what he expected. Our cows are beginning to look for holes in the electric fence. The primroses are all green as the snow melts off them and the buds are ready to burst on the pussy willow by the creek. Another spring. Easter Sunday is mid-April this year so maybe there won't be snow when the Easter Bunny scampers about in gum boots and housecoat. Do you have any idea how hard it is for the poor creature to cover it's trail in the fresh snow?
