Hall Hil cP SHULER ULL EL LULL ELL I HB a AA A is Prince Edward County Ratepayers Meet The Prince Edward County Ratepavers met on Nov 2 in the Municipal Hall in Wellington. This is the new name of the umbrella group. formerly known as the Bay of Quinte Ratepayers. President Ray Gorse reported that a presentation to County Council had been made by the PUC commission requesting that their remuneration be increased to $4,500.00 per year instead of the $3000.00 per year that the previous Picton PUC Commissioners had received. A lively discussion ensued which resulted in a motion being passed that the Ratepayers group was against this increase in remuneration and in fact felt very strongly that the PUC should in fact be a committee of council. This resolution will be forwarded to C ounty Council. It was pointed out that the new PUC had responsibility only for the hydro delivery in Picton. Bloomfield and Wellington and that they attend only 12 to 15 meetings per year. Also mentioned was the fact that in the former Village of Wellington, the PUC was a committee of council and committee members got an additional per diem of $39.00 per meeting. At $3,000.00 per year the commissioners will be paid between $200.00 and $250.00 per meeting. The mayor also sits as a member of the commission and receives this remuneration on top of his annual remuneration of $25,000.00 per year. Other business discussed indicated an upsurge in interest in local ratepayers groups with the latest group being formed in Hillier with 66 family memberships. Warings Creek Improvement Association reported on the progress of their Municipal Board hearings which have cost over $55,000.00 to date. They are also looking for other groups to help in raising funds for their appeal. Some of the funds spent to date are directly due to the lack of action and the indecision of both the present County Council and the former C ounty Council.
