ART Ieee Heer Cherry Valley Women's Institute Oh No! What's wrong with the furnace? We can't have our meeting in this hall! It's far too cold! Let's see if we can use the Church Hall. Who'll have a key?" So began Cherry Valley Women's Institutes March 14th Meeting. In spite of the delayed start, business was eventually com- pleted, including last minute details for the next day's Ham Supper, and for an update on "The Big Debate" in April. Margaret Squibb, education co-ordinator, gave a brief but interesting and informative talk about genetically modified food, and then members did a word search on the topic. There were three prize winners who had cor- rectly worked out the appropriate message "KEEP IN- FORMED AND STAY ALERT! We all wore something green in anticipation of St. Patrick's Day, had a short Irish sing-a-long accompanied on the piano by Carol Stokes, and our substantial & tasty refreshments were suitably decorated with shamrocks. The Annual Ham Supper was a great success, both financially and socially, we were pleased and grateful to be able to use the facilities of the Cherry Valley United Church Hall for this event, which we decorated in a St. Patrick's Day theme. The food was plentiful and delicious, the door prizes many and varied. and Josie and Heather Eagle- sham's hand-crafted raffle items greatly appreciated. A special certificate was presented by President Marie Hig- gins to long time active friend of the Women's Institute, Elsie Sprague. We were also thankful to have so many energetic local 4H Club members to help serve the drinks and to assist in the clean-up. Imagine our dismay when on running out of our apple juice, we inadvertently used up the Church's children's communion grape juice. "Wine"! We would like to remind the public of our "Big Debate" on genetically modified food, on Tuesday, April 4th. The programme will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the Picton Community Centre Hall. Admission is $2.00 to cover some of the costs. This is an information meet- ing, with both sides of the issue discussed by two Guelph University professors, and with ample time for questions from the floor. Rev. Audrey Whitney will be the modera- tor. This topic will be of interest to all who grow food, sell food and buy food! Phone in any already formulated questions to Margaret Squibb at 393-1224.
