ial] Tm VISION April is a complex month. It starts out with All Fools day and early in the month we go springing forward to a time change that upsets our system for months. In the middle of the month we celebrate the "Week of the Volunteers' and having toughed out many weeks of Lent the world celebrates two religious holidays, the Christian Easter holy week and the Jewish Passover. We were so busy that even Canadians had little time to complain about the bad weather eh! I sat here thinking of my article the past few days. Various scripture readings caused me to remember one that had in the past impressed me. No, I'm not going to discuss religion but one verse sticks in my mind for two quite different reasons. Years ago when 1 was day dreaming about - don't laugh- writing a novel, I selected a title from the bible without having the slightest idea what a novel with this title would contain and laterally a personal experience made me think again of my selected title. The scripture is Corinthians 13 verse 12. "For now we see through a glass darkly. But then face to face. Now | know in part. But then shall | know even as also I am known.' The title for my novel would be 'Through a glass darkly'. Now you may say that sounds familiar and it should because someone stole my idea and wrote a novel with that title. I can't remember the author nor could Her Nibs, nor can | remember the story even though I read it. Perhaps it was a mental blackout since the best part of the whole episode was the title and 1 had though of it first - or rather second to St . Paul. I recall my father preaching on this text and when I looked it up in the Bible he used most often when preaching, his cryptic notes of one liners were there but meant nothing to me. 1 wonder, how could he preach such long-long-long sermons with only 3 or 4 lines as notes? Oh Well, I digress. I mentioned two reasons for remembering this scripture and the second was my recent experience in having a cataract removed from each eye. 1 can hear you saying - my but you're so young to have cataracts. Thank you for that, but the criterion for removal now is if you cannot meet the requirements of The Highway Traffic Act for vision acuity rather than having 'ripened' to the state of almost blindness as in the past. In any event early in September 1 had my eyes checked and indeed rather than just needing glasses to read, I needed correction of my distance vision. | had difficulty reading road signs, the lines on the highway were blurred and showed double and lights at night were like many pointed stars. Indeed I had two cataracts which had grown significantly since my last test. The glasses (bifocals) helped a lot for a a little while. Three months later in late November I had to return for tests since my corrected vision was now worse than my previous uncorrected vision in September. 1 must have my cataracts removed said the Doctor, but if | wanted it done in less than a year I should go to Oshawa. Her Nibs needed an operation on her eye as well. Her other cataract had had to be removed three years ago. So off we trekked to Oshawa to the Opthamologist and then to Bowmanville Hospital for the operations. She had hers done in January and I had my first operation February and the second eye, due to be done in March, was delayed because of a billing argument between OHIP and the Doctor. I couldn't believe it. The difference in sight I mean. The operation is so quick now with no anaesthetic Continued on page 13 Country Shears FOR SALE Fresh Maple Syrup - $45.00 - $25.00 IL - $15.00 Wilbur Miller 476-8350. 1 Family Hairstyling 2058 COUNTY ROAD 17 1/2 KM.
