Lori Farrington, Star Director By Karen 1. Smith Directing has so many responsibilities that one may wonder how and where a director can learn the myriad of skills necessary to become one, let alone become a director who can successfully and superbly direct over 100 local actors. Well, Lori Farrington has shown herself to be a first-rate, supreme director as the production of 'The Wizard of Oz' proves. The show came off as totally professional. I am still shaking my head in amazement. How does one garner such skills required to direct with such magnitude? First off, Lori started where everyone starts, volunteering to do anything. For as long as she could remember, she had known that she wanted to act and to sing, had always felt that she could - "I can do that. I can cry". She just needed the courage - it looked like so much fun - and one day it clicked. Although she didn't try out for school plays, as an adult she finally tried out for the Mummers, much to our community's benefit, I must say. As she says, it's easy to act for a small group and your Mom, but it's an entirely different matter to do so in front of strangers. All actors must be nervous the first ime or two, afraid that someone out there will laugh, or worse yet - "Boo". So Lori just did it; she jumped in with both feet and asked "Do vou need any help with the Mummers" and has been busy ever since. She helped out with make-up on earlier shows and loved it. She felt she had a natural flair for make-up as it is like painting - one of her hobbies - only painting faces.
