Six Months into This Job.... I promised myself that I would spend the first six months as your Municipal Councillor "learning" - and I have certainly had to do that! The adage is you have one mouth and two ears so you're so supposed to listen more than talk. And Tve tried to do that too. Some of you know that would be a challenge for me! But now that we are through' a budget planning cycle and I have a number of your "calls" behind me for the experience, I hope I can satisfactorily do the job you desire of representing you on Council. While most of the time a Councillor wears generic * County Representative" garb, there have been a couple of times when I've donned my South Marysburgh armour to do battle - ves, the Town Hall roof will be replaced by the end of June I'm assured. Scott's Falls bridge will also be replaced this summer. Crowe's Road has received some gravel on the no-man's-land middle. And given the few calls I have had, garbage pickup is either successful or ignored (Personally, I still like to see Dale on Saturdays enroute to my Coffee Gallery snack and weekend paper!) And every other meeting there is a challenge (in jest!) to close Mount Tabor... The South Marysburgh Recreation Committee PHOTOCOPIER is available to the public at Video Variables across from the Post Office in Milford Phone 476-8891 SRE RRS If you have local or County issues, please do pick up the phone (476-8045) or stop in ( 1702 Cty Rd 17) and let me know about them if you feel I could be helpful with information or action. The County staff have been terrific to me in explaining how things work, answering my (and your) questions and very action oriented. If the problem can be fixed immediately, then that is what they have done - but sometimes they-need to know there is a problem. Each of us can make our community a better place to live when we assume some responsibility for its wellbeing by identifying problems and contributing ideas to the solution. And lucky me to represent South Marysburgh where such a trait is passed on genetically or wildly . contagious among its immigrants. (By the way, I am a 24 year citizen as of this October having come here via my Hillier birthplace and 8 urban lifestyle years in Toronto. I've now luckily lived longer in the Milford area than anyplace else in my life - that's a middle age thought, eh!) I am very pleased to be working with the team of Councillors who are representing Prince Edward County's interests at this time. We are diverse enough in interests, experience and age to learn from each other and move to better and more creative problem solving as a result. There is also a pleasant sense of humour which makes some of the very long meetings much more interesting! | invite you to attend some of these meetings. Council is held on the second and fourth Monday and is rather . formal as it is the time when full Council has discussion and approval on actions discussed in one of the four Committees - Public Works, Community Services, Planning and Corporate Services. These are quite informal and I sit on the first two and attend the others when there is an issue of interest or importance that "warrants my attendance. In the beginning I attended all the meetings to get a better understanding of how the County government works. These Committee meetings are open to the public and the public can also present their "issues here and at Council with advance notice. If you are interested in attending, please call me or Shire Hall at 476-2148 for more information. Thanks for your support and patience. Monica Alyea
