'Don Pinder Without Boundaries' starts winter season at Gallery One-Twenty-One Since his arrival in the Quinte area a few years ago Don Pinder has become well known for his innovative multi-level images of architectural details. A relatively new member of Gallery One-Twenty-One, Don will be the featured artist for the first time from October 231d till December 1st. For this show however he plans to exhibit a much more diverse selection of work including pottery, photography, sculpture and multi-level pieces, with a few surprises. The guest member for this show will be Kingston area artist Alan Jack. An Opening Reception will be held on Thursday Oct. 25th from 7 to 9pm. Don Pinder, a native of Newmarket, Ontario now fives in Wellington and has become a very active member of the county's growing artistic community. Last year one of his works was awarded an Honourable Mention at "Art in the County, 2000" and this year he chaired the organizing comunittee for "Art in the County, 2001." He has also held a one-person exhibit at the Belleville Public Gallery and his work can be seen at several galleries in the local area and elsewhere in Ontario. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design Don has worked as an art director, in sales promotion, magazines and interior and furniture design. His work is included in private collections in Toronto and across North America. He has been the recipient of a number of awards in juried shows. Allan Jack was born in Toronto and studied art there in the mid to late seventies: at the Three Schools of Art and Centra! Technical School. He moved to rural eastern Ontario in 1990 to allow more time for working at his art. He has shown in group shows since the early eighties and solo shows since 1989. He has made the following statement about his art: "My work involves landscape drawing and painting, working outdoors in the landscape as well as in the studio. 1 attempt to push through to a directness and simplicity by being very much engaged with the actual process of drawing and painting. The finished work derives from this engagement and not from any predetermination of what it should look like. All the works, both outdoor and studio, are concerned with ideas of how to place, orient and locate oneself in a landscape." Gallery 121 is at 48 Bridge St. East in Belleville and is open from 11am to Spm from Tuesday through Saturday.
