In the next couple of months you will see playground equipment erected at the fair/ball/theatre park and these funds will be helping to make that and other park improvements happen. Much thanks to Elia and Gudrun Gallo of Morrison' S Point Road (formerly wid our Silent Auction volunteer donors, Playground Committee Chair, Brent Walker and all those folks who assisted with the evening and attended. It raised about $1400.00. The "Barrels" are beautiful! What a wonderful idea. I've had numerous friends and family members visiting this summer and several have commented on the "prettiness" of Milford. Thanks to all who took on the task of caring for a barrel ( or two) and to Pat Dubyk, Carolynn Whitely and Harriet deBoer for their organization. (And all three of these folks are formerly from ...!) Little Bluff Conservation site has been spruced up with a new sign but vandals have been at work tearing off supports on the picnic shelter and bathroom door to burn in a campfire. If you can assist with capturing these villains, please call the OPP. Council has been setting records with lengths of meetings and numbers of deputations on the Royal Road Wind Farm Project. Both my brain and my bottom have been challenged - and my heart. If you have followed the local papers you will know the project was approved for that site in the following manner. There was a change to the document called the "Official Plan" to now allow for the presence of that specific wind farm. In case you didn't know ( and I didn't until I got into this job), the Official Plan attempts to organize land use in the County including agricultural, commercial, industrial, urban, rural residential, recreational, etc. with some overall vision. We were one of the first counties in Ontario to have an Official Plan I am told and that was put together by former and some present county councillors and planning staff in the early 70's. The Plan has scheduled formal reviews every five (5) years allowing for public input. The second approval was of a bylaw to permit the erection of an exploratory wind turbine to confirm the future success of the larger wind farm. Some of us on Council felt the project should go ahead. Some of us on Council thought windmills didn't "fit" in PEC at all. And some of us want them to fit but think more comprehensive planning is required. Because there wiil be more than one company landing on our shores to help us shape the "rules"; because wind power company interest has indicated that we have numerous "suitable" areas; and because these areas also happen to have ecological, tourist and particularly personal significance for those living there, a modified kind of planning approach is needed. I fit in the last group and voted accordingly. If you want to discuss it further, please feel free to call or drop by my deck for coffee. I will also be adding some materials to the file on wind power located at the Library. All summer have been hoping to get up and fly over PEC. Jay, the boyfriend of my oldest daughter, Emily, flies and the plan was to get both my girls and me up. But they were back on their way to British Columbia before it could happen. Several days before the last Council meeting, a friend was visiting and we had planned to go driving around the County. I spoke of my plan to fly over some time and my more immediate desire to go to see the southern and western shores given the windmill application. Three hours later we were in the air out of the First Nations airport in Deseronto. Hilary , my youngest, came up from Kingston to join us. : Awesome!
