SARS In Toronto Creates Opportunity for Upcoming Minerva Production The Sars outbreak and subsequent closing of the major musical productions in that city have created an opportunity for the folk opera Minerva which is scheduled to run Thanksgiving weekend, October 10 and 11 at the Regent Theatre in Picton. The male lead from the Toronto production of Mama Mia, Peter Deiwick, has committed to play the role of Moses Dulmage, opposite Emily Fennell in Mi- nerva. Out of work Toronto dancer and singer Ste- phenos Christou will portray Moses in the dancing role. Deiwick played the role of the fiancée in Mamma Mia and Jinx in the Toronto production of Forever Plaid. Christou has danced in numerous productions including West Side Story, Oklahoma and Into the Woods. "When Peter Deiwick and Stephenos audi- tioned for us in Toronto two weeks ago, I was abso- lutely thrilled by the stroke of luck for our show," says Minerva's creator Suzanne Pasternak. "When Peter took to the stage, he had instant command of it and he took no prisoners! The emotional honesty and vocal power between Peter and Emily is astounding. Stephanos is over six foot three and his dancing part- ner, Janice Lambert is almost five eleven. They look stunningly beautiful together on the stage. We intro- duced the concept of lyrical ballet into the show in 2000 and have developed the idea since then. These two dancers will bring the dancing role to new heights." Prince Edward Island musician and actor Mark Haines will portray the role of Joe Carruthers, Mi- nerva's First Mate. Mark was nominated for an East Coast Music Award this year along with the show's Music Director Tom Leighton. Leighton and Haines have worked together for over 18 years and have NOW OPEN EVERYDAYMI § Come on by to see the pr new paint job!
